About
Overview
James Williamson is a cross country and endurance mountain biker for Team Giant in Australia. James is the 2006 Australian Solo 24hr Champion and 2008 World Solo 24hr Champion.
History
James started racing bikes in the year 2000 when his uncle convinced him to do a three week cycling trip from Adelaide to Sydney. The pair carried all their gear and camped along the way. James was dreading the trip but finished the three weeks having had the time of his life.
From there, James enquired about mountain bike racing at his local club, in the Southern Highlands of NSW, attended his first race a few weeks later, and despite crashing on the first corner and having to walk the technical sections, he was hooked on the sport. He’s been racing hard ever since (and gradually learning to crash a bit less). James moved to Canberra to study at university and race mountain bikes and he now lives in Melbourne, Victoria.
Education
James has completed a Journalism/PR degree at the University of Canberra and regularly contributes to a number of outdoor and mountain bike magazines.
Racing
According to James, “Racing is the best way to feel alive: nothing compares to flying down a descent racing a bunch of mates and picking lines between rocks, puddles and mud.
“Racing mountain bikes also offers me endless travel opportunities and the chance to visit new and different places both in Australia and around the world.”
